My years in the courtroom have taught me what it takes to be a good judge. In any courtroom where I preside, every person will know that they were heard, treated fairly and given an equal opportunity to make their case — no matter who they are, where they live, what they do for a living, their race, age, gender, lifestyle or point of view.

Over my 30+ year legal career I have represented people from all walks of life – with all kinds of concerns, both civil and criminal. Much of my work has involved civil rights. I have represented people who could not afford to pay for a lawyer and businesses that couldn’t afford not to. I have represented union members and I have owned a company that gave schools and parents tools to protect children from Internet pornography.

Because of my trial experience I am a recognized expert in trial advocacy. I have been an adjunct faculty member at the UW Law School for 20 years and I have taught hundreds of lawyers in Seattle and around the U.S. how to be more effective and ethical in their courtroom work. Helping lawyers and law students learn how to represent their clients with the highest ethical standards is one way I have worked to improve our legal system.

Thank you,
